Air Sealing/Ventilation

Air Sealing/Ventilation

Air Sealing

Air sealing your home is crucial in order to avoid moisture issues as well as poor air quality inside of the home. By controlling the amount of moisture, it makes the home more energy efficient, cheaper to heat and cool, and also prevents mold build-up. Not to mention that by air sealing, you can save up to 30% on your energy bill. Lisa and her husband, Mike, recently had the exterior and interior of their home air sealed by Green Homeowners United. Kevin, the Chief Economist of the company, and his team, worked to seal gaps in the home where air leaks through. These points include the chimney, gaskets, ducts, doorways, and the attic.

Energy Audit

An Energy Audit is an inspection of the home that determines how energy efficient your home really is. This inspection consists of an evaluation of energy and utility use as well as an evaluation of heating and cooling appliances. They may even use a blower door or thermal imaging camera inside and outside of the home. After the initial test, the data is analyzed, and the inspectors give recommendations on what the next steps should be in order to improve energy efficiency. Lisa and Mike had an Energy Audit performed in August 2021 by Green Homeowners United before they did any work on their home. After all of the renovations are complete, they will do another energy audit to see how much energy they saved!

Ventilation

Ventilation plays an important role in circling out the old or “stale” air and replacing it with fresh air. Without this cycle, the air in the home becomes more polluted than the air outside. If your home has poor ventilation, you risk condensation, mold growth, damaged walls, and low oxygen levels. In extreme cases, a lack of ventilation can lead to health difficulties such as allergies and respiratory issues.
